Carl and Sigi’s Trip to Haiti in 2013 – Celebrating Our First 10 Years!

Loving Haiti celebrated many “firsts” in 2013! We sent our first short-term mission team to Pignon, became our own 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, held our first board meeting, brought Pastor and Madam Francois to Colorado, and hosted our first Loving Haiti celebration event.

It was a great year, that started with sending a couple from Tel Aviv, Israel to Pignon.  Carl and Sigalit Yonker, friends of Loving Haiti founders Abby and Denny Bain, lived in Pignon on the Philadelphia Baptist Church Campus four months loving the kids in the children’s home and supervising major infrastructure projects.  Carl and Sigi introduced themselves in their first blog post: “Our desire to serve and help people is deeply ingrained in us, both as individuals and as a married couple …. When we were dating, we spoke about our common desire to travel and serve together as a couple. The calling and this opportunity to partner with Loving Haiti has brought us to this present moment.  So, in November, we packed up our lives in Tel Aviv, quit our jobs at Tel Aviv University and USAID, and came to Colorado to prepare for the trip. We are very excited to head out to Pignon and are excited to see what God has planned for our lives and time there!!”  You can find their blog posts “Thoughts on Being a Father”, “Pursue Justice”, and “Life Lessons from Orphans” following the link https://www.lovinghaiti.org/category/blog/page/5.

Thanks to our generous partners, Loving Haiti was able to fund major infrastructure projects, using local Haitian workers, including drilling a well, installing sinks, toilets and showers, building a concrete roof, patio and water tower.

2013 was a very good year, indeed!
