February 2022 News From Pignon

Since the beginning of January, everyone feels happy to live this month with its thirty-one days. On the other hand, even if the days are difficult, no one can stop thinking about the days to come. The Pignonaise population, despite everything, had noticed that not only the price of food products continues to climb (daily increase of at least 0.50% of the amount of yesterday on all products, rice, peas, oil, milk, sugar), but also that of building materials such as iron, cement, sheets, nails etc. sell for a high price of 925 ($9) gourdes for a bag of cement. Eating, which should be a basic need, continues to impose its laws as a luxury.

Regarding politics, Pignon is not exempt from all the crises of our dear Haiti. Thankfully, we live in a community where kidnapping and homicide cases have no place. Every day, we can see an atmosphere of peace despite everything. This general policy often prevents transport from one city to another, such as February 07, 2022, which was a day when the people were very vigilant, because malicious individuals disclosed a lot of information leading to the belief that the country was going to plunge into utter chaos, which fortunately was not the case. In Pignon, the schools operate for half days- they used to release at 12:00 but now do so at 10:30 AM.

Health institutions continue to provide services to the population and surrounding areas as usual. The seasonal fever I was talking about before does not stop but on the contrary a person can have it 2 or 3 times even while taking medication. People in the know are continuing to work on preventing the spread of COVID-19 in schools, churches, or other meeting places and the importance of mask use and vaccination. Gasoline pumps distribute fuels less well than before.

I have seen the total closure of several companies due to a lack of raw materials or equipment since it is more difficult to initiate customs processes, whether air or sea. Churches never stop opening their doors not only to worship God but to give instructions on the life that the Lord gives us, its importance, and its modes of management as a Christian.

 

 

As usual, the month of February bears the color of love. In Haiti, most young people are thinking of having new relationships or restoring their romantic relationship dating more precisely on February 14. As a result, I questioned a lot of young people. For some, nothing is yet clear for this day, while for others, it will be a great day as it should be. It is only to wait.
