June news: Business in Pignon
Business in Pignon: A difficult season for most business owners
Still safe from the violence and chaos in the southern part of Haiti, the north suffers from the same economic hardship and food insecurity gripping the rest of the country. This month our friend Darling shares photos of a few local businesses to give us a feeling for the economy in Pignon:

This water business continues to operate successfully as clean water is a primary need for those Pignon residents who do not have access to a well. This business also operates as a phone recharging facility, another must for those who do not have access to electricity in their homes.

Businesses that use the services this shop provides cannot afford photocopies and other supplies because of the rising cost of paper and other merchandise.

This beverage depot is closed for business as the owner cannot access product or pay the supplier’s cost to resell.

Construction continues in Pignon, despite the rising cost of building materials. The business at the top of the photo sells cement and other supplies. The women at the bottom of the photo are pictured at their small businesses, selling food and other products on the side of the road.

Beautiful shelving and other custom projects are created at this glass shop.
